International Womens Day

Hi Bloggers!

Just a short one today to say Happy “International Women’s Day”. This day may mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To me its about celebrating those fantastic women in your lives who really inspire us. It’s about uniting and remembering that its important to support each other (after all we are pretty fabulous).

Remember on this day that a women’s protest sparked a revolution in Russia that ultimately gave women the right to vote. So we should never underestimate our power to influence and make a change. Never be afraid to speak your mind or do something for a greater good. It’s act like this that have changed the way women are perceived and treated across the globe… but we still have work to do believe me!

This years IWD campaign is headlined #beboldforchange. It’s all about making a stand for change and not sitting back and waiting for it to happen! This could mean speaking out against domestic violence or women’s equality in the workplace. If you do anything today I urge you to speak out about change, use your social media to voice your opinion…this could make all the difference.

Have a great day ladies!

Giving up for Lent…

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all full up from a pile of pancakes yesterday. Whilst you were vegged out on the sofa trying to understand why your heart was telling you that 1 more Nutella filled pancake would fit in your tummy I hope you took some time to think about what you were giving up for Lent!

Lent is a fabulous time of year to test your indurance and mental ability to give up something you THINK you can’t live without. This could be anything from chocolate to smoking… but try it! I dare you…

According to Openbible.info this years top 10 things to give up for Lent include the obvious; chocolate, fizzy drinks and sweets and the less obvious; social media (impossible… I’m an addict) and school?!? – don’t listen kids stay in school!

This got me to thinking, what will I be giving up for Lent? So I had a chat with Mr Willetts. Now he didn’t actually know what Lent was and has spent his entire life thinking that Shrove Tuesday was a fancy name for a day dedicated to pancakes. So needless to say he won’t be giving up anything for Lent as the concept is an entirely new one to him (maybe next year).

Now our housecouple on the other hand (that’s a word I made up because we live with another couple) obviously listened in school and had already decided what they were giving up! One is giving up biscuits and the other crisps. Both being the dietary equivalent of an Achilles heel in their eyes. They both work office based roles and there isn’t a day that goes by when there’s not an offering of a Viennese melt or a custard cream. So challenge accepted they will be giving these up for 40 days and 40 whole nights! Good luck is all I can say!

That only leaves me. Now I’ve recently started this weird health kick where my diet seems to just consist of meat, spinach and fruit pots from Marks and Spencer. I’ve only had 1 alcoholic beverage in 2 weeks so it seems pointless to “challenge” myself with that one. So it’s settled… there’s only one other indulgence I really have in my day to day life… Baths. I love baths. Check out my instagram or my snapchat and you’ll find a collection of bath pictures.

So that’s what I’m giving up. It makes sense. We just had a letter through the door explaining how our new water meter will work and one of the highest water usages is a bath… what better time to try and give them up.

Now I know you might be thinking “what is this crazy woman going on about?” But trust me my love for a good bath is unreal. Here’s my Prefect bath set up:

-Mr Willetts runs it for me after a brief low down on what bubbles or salts I require for said bath. In the past year or so I’ve been limited to 1 “Mr Willetts bath” a week… apparently my request for a bath every day got out of control so now I get 1… as a “treat”

-some gentle soul music

-a nice heavy exfoliating face mask

-on occasion a glass of wine wouldn’t go a miss but I usually take some water and I like them boiling hot!

-a catch up episode of some TV series. As a preference I prefer The Undateable’s or First dates

-and finally peace and quiet. In our house this needs to be after the boys have had a good day of sport or long working day. They have a tendency to bowl and shout around the house like they are 12 again and just discovered they have a brother? – I know for 2 grown men it’s pretty odd.

Now I literally soak in the bath until the water is cold or my fingers wrinkle so giving up this down time luxury is going to be pretty difficult to give this up. Don’t be concerned it doesn’t mean I’m giving up cleaning myself all together, that would be weird. I’ll just have to get used to using our shower (boring).

If I have any relapses I’ll be sure to let you guys know! And if I actually achieve the full 40 days and 40 nights… I’m dedicating an entire blog to my favourite bath items to celebrate!

Let me know what you guys are giving up! I’d love to hear about it!

I’ve put away the lush products and caught up on all my TV series…. I’ll see you in 40 days!!!

2017 Goal Setting

Hi Blogging world!

Sorry its been a while since I last posted! It appears work and life have taken over and I  haven’t had much time to stop and reflect. That got me to thinking. I can’t spend the next year being so wrapped up in work and the day-to-day that I don’t actually achieve anything.

So I decided I was going to set some goals. I had some serious down time and got to thinking… Now I’m not one for New Years resolutions because I end up breaking them or Mr Willetts spends every waking hour waiting for me to slip up and give it a good old “I told you so” (I know such a supportive husband) so I try to avoid resolutions but setting goals makes it sound more achievable. I’m not planning on giving anything up instead planning on achieving something!

Now if you’ve never set a goals I have a few tips…

-Start with the end goal and make your way backwards

-Make sure they are achievable. You don’t want to get discouraged too easily if it turns out to be slightly harder than you anticipated!

-Review your goals every now and again to ensure your making progress and not letting your day-to-day get in the way of the future!

-Make time for your goals – work, tiredness, pretty much anything can be used as an excuse for not achieving your goals so set time aside to focus on them.

1.Achieve 500 followers on my blog

This is not a long term goal but it’s a perfect way to achieve the big goal of blogging consistently to a wide audience. At the beginning of the year when I decided to start this blog I did not anticipate how much time it would take to blog! I love every minute of it and can’t wait to start typing again! So the how… I think at this point I just need to be more consistent with  what and when I write so I mapped out a few ideas and spent the afternoon in a coffee shop planning my next few blogs… I’m super excited to share them all with you…

So tell all your friends to watch this space!

“Thats not a very big goal. You could walk down the street talking to people and find 500 followers” – Mr Willetts

2.Add something new to my CV

As much as I like to think I could run around restaurants and bars for the rest of my life it turns out that as I grow up and get older it isn’t as easy as it used to be. It’s definitely a good thing to see your CV current and add to it where you can. Adding to your skill set can only broaden your opportunities. With that said I am looking into some part-time/evening courses that I think look quite interesting so watch this space! My dad always said I could do anything I put my mind to… step aside Sir Alan Sugar.

“Start making some real money so I can spend my days on the golf course” – Mr Willetts

3. Drop back down to a comfortable weight

Now anyone who knows me will know I have never been particularly worried about what I eat, how often I eat or my weight. I was always quite gifted in the metabolism department… however as I start to slow down in speed around a bar so does my metabolism. A month or so ago I went back to my parents house and my mum still has my wedding dress hanging in her bedroom. Being the princess that I am I INSISTED on trying it on again and pledged I would do it every year until it no longer fitted. My mum being the most supportive person to any stupid idea that comes out of my mouth helped me step into the wonderful dress and then came the disappointment. As I went to pull the dress up over my arse I realised it wasn’t as “comfortable” as it was when I wore it back in September. We double checked that the zip was “all the way down” and in that moment I realised I was now TOO FAT for my own wedding dress. It wouldn’t zip up past my bum! Inside I cried… outside I laughed.

I later went home and weighed myself… I realised at this point it was time to stop eating EVERYTHING I look at and start moving more! So I joined a gym again and have practically been eating air for the last couple of weeks.

“I think you’re already very comfortable… this is how you got yourself into this [weight] situation” – Mr Willetts

As always Mr Willetts is ever the inspiration! Let me know if you guys have recently set any goals or resolutions and what you are doing to make sure you achieve them! I definitely think writing them down and sharing them with you guys is inspiring me to actually achieve them and not just let them sit on the sideline.

My First Birchbox

Hi guys!

I want to try and keep my blogs a little different each time however when this little box arrived at my door this week I thought what the heck! I need to share with your guys what was in my very first Birchbox.

Now for those of you who don’t know, Birchbox have been around for a while now. In short its a box of goodies specifically tailored to you and your beauty needs. When you sign up online you fill in a short survey about your skin and hair and what you expect from products and then they tailor this cute box full of testers for you to try. These products are then available through their website at full size and usually discounted via points you collect or vouchers you get in your box.

I haven’t used all the products in my first box and I did receive 2 products that I already use however overall I was impressed with what I got!

Complete picture.jpg

The first product in the box is 70ml tube of Rituals Mild exfoliating body scrub. RRP for a full size tub is £19.50 (350ml). It can be found… here.

Rituals Body Scrub.jpg

The product itself smells incredible its floral and light and everything I love to smell like. I’ve smelt alot of white lotus products recently but the Yi Yi Ren is not something I’ve come across but does give the scrub a very sweet smell. I haven’t had chance to use it yet as I’m slowly making my way through all the beautiful scrubs and and soaps I got for Christmas however what I would say is the scrub does have a very light grit to it and usually when I’m using an exfoliator I like to use products that are on the slightly rough side as I do get very dry skin and I find that helps! This product would be perfect for someone with sensitive skin.

The second product I already use a version of. This particular one is the Spectrum Collection Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge RRP £4.99 and this is a full size product you can buy… here.

I swear by these types of sponge and you will not find me applying my base makeup with anything else. I love how evenly is spreads foundation across my skin and its perfect to use when dabbing your concealer into those slightly harder to reach places; under your eyes and the crease of your nose. In terms of feel I love it. I do find some of these sponges to be a little hard (depending on brand) but this could be my porridge “just right”. It’s also pretty cool that it comes with this bag which means you can drop it in your make up bag safe in the knowledge any excess product is not going to end up painting your other products.

3rd out of the box is this The Balm Stainiac product. RRP £14.00 for 8G. You can find this lovely product in Superdrug…here

Stainiac.jpg

This is a 1.2ml tester and if my grandad was sat next to my right now he’d be tutting at the fact I don’t even know how to convert that without using my best pal Siri and when I did… its the same thing 1=1 (awkward). Now I’m not really a rosey cheeks type of girl except every now and again in the summer, so it wouldn’t be a must have purchase in my collection. However the pigment is light and would be perfect for a blush on your cheeks… It can also be used on your lips. I’ve yet to try it out as I’m not a big Red Lip fan… I’m hoping it comes out a more pink than red but I’ll keep you posted if it does make an appearance!

Next in my little box of goodies is PK Prep Polishing Balm. This is a mini version of the full product. The bottle is 20ml. RRP £18.50 for 75ml and can be picked up… here.

polish-balm

I’m always conscious about using styling products on my hair. I don’t know why but the second I put anything on it my thin hair feels instantly heavier and blow-drys feel sticky. So I have a very select set of products I’ll use for styling. It is safe to say I love this product and would definitely purchase the bigger version. Although a little on the pricey side, if you follow the instructions on the back and only use a very small amount the results are great! As this was a tester I figured I would edge on the side of caution and use a very small amount as there are 2 ways of using it!

The first is when your hair is wet to help reduce frizz when blow drying… which it does! However word of caution – only use towards the ends and mid-length… touching your root you may find it looks a little greasy on your hair. The second is using when its dry to create a sleek look which isn’t something I do often but would use this product to try!

The next is just a quick note as I use this type of products for a lot of things and was actually planning to do a little blog on all the uses of this wonderful product. This particular product is Vita Coco Coconut Oil and although this is a tester but can be brought in lots of places. It usually retails at around £5 for 250ml.

coconut-oil

This little starter is a perfect way to test it out!

Lastly but by no means least is Caudalie moisturising sorbet. This 10ml tester and the regular 40ml bottle is a luxury price of £23.00 and can be purchased here

caudalie-cream

I have to say when I saw the price of this bottle it did take me back slightly. However on trying the product I must say the price definitely reflects the product. This face sorbet instantly makes your face feel light and refreshed and almost dewy in texture. If I could afford to I would definitely apply this to my face twice a day as recommended on the back. When my current body shop moisturiser runs out I will definitely consider making this my next purchase!

Now I have to say I was actually quite surprised at the quality of items that you get in the box. It costs £10 once a month for the box. I’m genuinely quite impressed. The total for items in the box are below:

Rituals body scrub tester: £3.90

Spectrum Sponge: £4.99

The Balm Stainiac: £2.90

Philip Knightley polishing balm: £2.90

Caudalie Moisturising Sorbet: £5.75

Vita Coco Coconut Oil: £0.12 (think this was just a little added extra as you usually expect to get 5 products in a box)

Total for the box: £20.44.

I would like to say I’m looking forward to my new box… lucky for me because I signed up on a January promotion so I received 2 months of boxes for the price of one. I’m excited to open the next one up and see whats inside! Then before I know it Februarys box will be on its way to me!

I’m sorry to those who usually tune in to hear about Mr Willetts’ opinion on these products but when I explained the concept to him he didn’t quite get it… I’m currently looking for a male version to help him understand? If anyone knows of any good ones please comment below!

Hair Game

It may seem like an odd way to follow on from a wedding blog… talking about my hair but I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you about my recent hair journey.

Looking back on our honeymoon my hair was the best hair I’ve EVER had. I loved everything about it from the colour to the length. The only thing that frustrated me about my hair was the lack of volume and the ends were SUPER dry and always frizzy. I’m sure you’ll agree that my hair over our honeymoon was… on point (can I pull that off?!).

It’s become very apparent from these selfies that I LOVE the right hand side of the screen… clearly my better side. Anyway I digress…

On my return from holiday I was fed up of my hair, plus Mr Willetts gets very upset when I put my hair in a bun on my head…he says I have a big forehead, which I do but thanks for highlighting. I tend to be putting it up every other day when my hair is long because it’s dirty or I’m too lazy to bother styling it. So first thing that Tuesday morning I took myself down to Blackheath Hair & Co (my favourite hair salon in Blackheath… and believe me theres a few) and kindly asked the lady to “chop it all off”. which she did… and as always for about a week I loved it… and have subsequently wanted my “old hair” back ever since.

Its not until you put the pictures together that you realise how much a hair cut changes your face?!

Anyway… I vowed from the moment I started to hate it that would take care of my hair from that moment forward, try not to use hair appliances too often, treat it well and live in hope that it would grow back just as beautiful as before but in A LOT better condition. So I decided to try out some new shampoos and conditioners in the hunt for the best one for my hair!

It’s important before I tell you about these products that I explain where Mr Willetts comes into all this (other than his mild insults around the size of my forehead). I Started to notice as I was testing these new products that they were depleting from the bottle pretty quickly…it turns out that Mr Willetts likes to treat himself to what he calls “A Salon Wash”. This basically means that he uses my lovely hair products to wash his very small amount of hair but he only does it as a treat i.e once/twice a week!!! Now considering he doesn’t have a massive amount of hair we had a little chat about his “Salon Wash” and agreed that he could use a small “pea size” amount if he helped me by reviewing each one for this very blog.

Now after changing and trying quite a few since I cut all my hair off I have now settled down to 3. I know three sounds a lot but it will all make sense in the end!

all-shampoo

From left to right we have:

Loreal Elvive  Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner

Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner

Lush Rehab Shampoo and Retread Conditioner

The Loreal Elvive Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner is relatively cheap and usually retails for around £3.50 per bottle. If you pop into Boots you’ll usually find it under some sort of offer. On this occasion it was £2 per bottle. This particular shampoo and conditioner is perfect if you are going on a night out or are looking to do something fancy with your hair. The texture once you’ve blow dried it actually makes it feel thicker to touch and makes it sooo much easier to style and put up. It smells amazing but it makes your hair feel almost a day old in terms of touch and I’m sure if you asked any hairstylist they’d tell you that they prefer hair thats not been freshly washed when putting it up.

elvive-in-focus

“it doesn’t do what it says on the tin, I was expecting my hair to be thicker but its the same. Smells alright though” – Mr Willetts

Let’s just be clear here that I think he thought that this shampoo was going to give him a new head of hair and needless to say he was a little disappointed with the result.

The second is the Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner. This is my favourite every day go to shampoo and conditioner. This is the one that runs out the quickest because it’s the most used out of the bunch. The smell is incredible and it always makes your hair feel clean and almost fluffy without being greasy. I think the organ oil packed inside is what helps to give my hair a little bit of weight without making it look greasy – which is a common problem I’ve found with different shampoos I’ve tried. These usually retail for round £8 per bottle – 100% worth the price tag but again often they can be found on the shelves of boots under some sort of offer. You just need to keep your eyes open and stock up!

Argan Oil in focus.jpg

“this ones my favourite smells ridik and makes my hair really soft”-Mr Willetts.

For those who aren’t familiar with Willettsism’s:

Ridik – adjective, shortened from the word ridiculous and usually used to describe something thats really really good.

Finally but no means least is the Lush Rehab Shampoo and Retread Conditioner. Now this one is a little more on the eco friendly side and I am all for that! I love that lush exchange empty bottles (five) for a free face mask which usually retails for a minimum of £5 all you have to do is be environmentally responsible and return your lush bottles and tubs back to the store and exchange.

The shampoo and conditioner itself does not disappoint. This is not an every day shampoo and conditioner as the idea is to strip your hair back to its natural untouched state. Thats exactly what it does! It’s a perfect detox shampoo and conditioner after a few heavy nights of styling or if like me you work around food and your hair gets disgustingly on the greasy side. I would personally say use this once MAXIMUM twice a week to restore your hair. I personally like to use it when I have my once a week Mr Willetts run bath (but thats a whole different blog on the way!) The thing about this combination of shampoo and conditioner that always amazes me is that your hairs squeaks because it so clean which sounds odd but is such a lovely feeling! The shampoo retails at £5.75 per 100g and the conditioner £6.95 per 100g. A little more expensive but  considering you’d only use it once a week its a sound investment.

Lush in focus.jpg

“this one wasn’t very good. my hair wasn’t soft and how can I get on board with using the conditioner in the shower when I have to scoop it out. it’d be better if you could just squeeze it in your hand like the rest of them. Smells alright.” Mr Willetts

Since using a combination of these products and limiting myself to blow drying on a cooler heat and only using straighteners and curling tongs when I’m going out out my hair has improved 10 fold. I’m actually starting to fall back in love with it again and although I think 60% of that is because it’s now just started to hit my shoulders in length again I also believe that taking care of it has made it 100 times easier to style. iIt even styles itself sometimes and all I have to do is brush and tame with a couple of products after blow drying it. Here’s an example of it below!

hair-growing

Please feel free to comment below if you use any of these products or if you have any that you think i should try! And subscribe now in anticipation for my next blog!

Becoming Mrs Willetts

I couldn’t possibly start a blog about being Mrs Willetts without letting you guys in on the big day. Mr Willetts and I got married on September 8th 2016, which seems like forever ago now. I recently opened the wedding album back up to take another look into the big day!

Getting ready with my bridesmaids and spending the morning drinking Prosecco and being pampered is definitely my idea of fun! At this point I need to give a HUGE shout out to our make up artist Charlotte (check out her page she’s basically a magician for your face) and Beth our incredibly talented hair dresser. We’ve known each other since we were kids and she is super super talented! I’m so proud of what she has achieved.

The ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Skylark Golf and Country Club in Whiteley. We actually managed to combine everything Mr Willetts required for the wedding (a golf course to play in the morning) and my long standing dream of getting married in a barn. The first time we laid eyes on it we both knew it was perfect!

It’s important at this point to let you in on one of Mr Willetts’ point of view (this is basically his interpretation on a situation). The below picture is described by Mr Willetts’ as “the biggest signing of his career”. He is big on most sports and this is us signing a life long (no-where near the type of money players such as Messi or Ronaldo receive) contract forever binding me to Mr Willetts’.

img_1677

The bit in between the ceremony and the after-party are all a little bit of a blur so the pictures are a really good way to help me remember exactly what happened! I would like to say this was due to a little too much Prosecco for breakfast but i’m sure it was a combination of the excitement and how quickly the day passes!

When it comes to first dance songs I may sound a little biased but I actually believe ours is the best. Boyce Avenues Cover of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream. Click here to have a little listen…if there’s no tears by the end of it… you have no heart.

NB- I asked Mr Willetts for the song name… he scratched his head for a good 30 seconds before remembering…

_2SZ0711.jpg

When we were looking for a photographer there was only one option. Our friend Lila is the most incredible photographer and has an amazing eye for capturing moments that sum up a million emotions. Mr Willetts and I aren’t particularly big fans of posing photos so for her to capture these magical moments we will be forever grateful!

I cannot express how much I loved this day and it will forever stay in our hearts! A HUGE thank you to all the bridesmaids and groomsmen and everybody involved in making this day perfect. This was definitely the most amazing start to our adventure as Mr & Mrs Willetts.

“It was a great day. I played incredible for the first 9 holes but fell apart after that. Got a great roley. The pig was pretty good but £600 on flowers we got mugged off there…” – Mr Willetts.
